We finished our third week of school!  Kindergarteners are settling into the classroom, nicely and working hard on learning!  We are very proud of all of them!

This week we learned:

Bible- Genesis 1:31a And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.

The story of Adam & Eve

Phonics/Writing- Letter Bootcamp (R,S,U,V, W). We learned the letter sound, brainstormed words that start with that letter, and wrote our uppercase and lowercase letters properly.

Sight words- red, and, blue

Math- Counting 1-10 & learning there are many ways to show our numbers.

Social Studies- The 4 seasons (winter, spring, summer & fall).  We explored summer, in detail.

Upcoming dates & special events:

Sept. 7th - No school (Labor Day)

Sept 15th- International Dot Day (Based on the book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, we will celebrate “all things dots” by wearing dots, drawing dots, eating dots, learning about dots, and how we can make a mark on the world around us).

Sept.17th & 18th - Parent teacher conferences via zoom (more info coming)

Sept. 25th- Apple Day (more info coming)

Sept. 28th- Oct. 2nd - No school (Fall Break)

* Please practice sight words and the bible verse daily.  Kindergarteners will be assessed weekly on the bible verse and bi-weekly on the sight words. There are tons of activities/games on Pinterest and Instagram...keeping it fun will make it much easier on you!

         Here are a few ideas:

* Please keep all sight words in the homework binder because we need to add the new words on Friday.   Please clear all papers out of the front and back pockets.  (The sight word books and finished classwork should stay home.) Thank you for helping our students stay organized!

* Parent teacher conferences will be held via zoom on September 17th & 18th.  Lower school students will have early dismissal on those two days.  Flipside will be available.  Dismissal will begin at 11:15 am. This will be an opportunity for you to find out  your child’s strengths and areas that need improvement.  Be on the lookout for an email from your child’s teacher with the sign-up genius link.

* Please remember to send a water bottle with your child each day.

A FEW REMINDERS

  • School begins at 8:00 for Kindergarten. If your child arrives before 7:30 he/she should go directly to the Lower School cafeteria. Students will be escorted to the classroom between 7:30-8:00. School starts at 9 am on Take One Wednesdays...students will be escorted to their classrooms at 8:30- 9:00a.m.

  • Please send in a one, healthy snack for your child each day. For those classrooms that have students with allergies, we ask that you refrain from bringing in peanut/nut snacks into the classroom.

  • Please look for your child’s homework/communication binder every day.  Inside, you will find their homework for the week, calendar of events, sight word flash cards, and communication from the teacher and/or school.  Friday folders will be sent home on Fridays and will have a week’s worth of student work, artwork, assessments, communication letters, etc.  These folders should be emptied out, signed and returned to school on Mondays.
