Week of October 26 - 30

Our Kindergarteners are super excited to be learning words and they’re reading sentences!  Now that the children are in reading groups, they will occasionally bring home a book to read to you.  Please have your child read it several times for fluency.  Reading takes lots of practice and encouragement..have them read in different rooms or outdoors. They could build a special fort to read in or maybe even read in the dark with a flashlight! Try to make it fun instead of a “chore” so that they will want to become avid readers...Happy Reading!

REMINDERS:

  • If your child did not pass the sight word test for a brag tag, keep practicing! When they are ready to try again, let us know. We want every child to earn a Superman Brag Tag!
  • If you signed up to bring supplies for Pumpkin Day...thank you! Please remember to bring in those donations no later than Wednesday, October 28th.
  • Remember to have your child practice learning his/her address and phone number. Once they know and can recite it to their teacher, they will become a member of the "Kindergarten Club".

Week of 10/26-10/30

Fall is such a beautiful time of year to enjoy God's creation! We love playing at recess in this beautiful weather.  October is a super fun and busy month in Kindergarten.  We have lots of great activities coming up. Please mark your calendars with the upcoming dates and details provided below.

LOWER SCHOOL GRANDPARENTS DAY is coming soon!!

On Friday, Oct. 23rd, we look forward to honoring our Grandparents and Grandfriends during a day of celebration! While this beloved tradition will look a little different this year, we still want to honor and celebrate our amazing grandparents and grandfriends, who mean so much to our students and to our school family.

To allow for quality time with their grandparents and grandfriends, this day will be an optional half-day for LS & MS students. Grandparents and grandfriends are welcome to pick up students early from school for a special lunch or afternoon together off campus. (Students who stay will remain in their classrooms per usual that afternoon. Lower and Middle School students who stay will need to bring lunch from home, as food services will only be open for Upper School that day. Afternoon carline will begin at 2:30, and Flipside will begin and end at the normal times that afternoon.)

Lower School Optional Early Dismissal | 11:15 a.m

We will have our annual Orange Day on Friday, Oct. 23rd. All of Lower School will be able to wear ANYTHING Orange.

NCCS spirit week is October 26th -30th

All Lower School students are encouraged to participate in dressing up for Homecoming week!  Please look at the daily themes for each day...this is completely optional of course!

Dress up attire should be appropriate and practical- no masks, scary characters , and/or high heel shoes will be allowed.  Uniforms should be worn if your child chooses not to participate.  It is intended to be fun and show our school spirit.

Pumpkin Day is coming 10/30!

Friday, October 30th will be K5’s “Pumpkin Day”.  We will carve pumpkins, play pumpkin games, make pumpkin crafts, enjoy pumpkin treats & participate in STEAM challenges.  In order to make this a fun day for our students, we need help from our wonderful parents!  A Sign-up Genius was sent in your email last week.  If you are able, we would love some donations for our special day.  We appreciate you so much!

This week we learned:

We hope you had a relaxing vacation...we enjoyed hearing all about your family memories & adventures!  It’s hard to believe we have been in school for 2 months...this year is flying by!  We love how excited our Kindergarteners are about learning!

As always, we are here to help your child grow...please contact your teacher with any questions and/or concerns you may have.  The best way to contact us is through our school email...please remember to allow 24 hours for a response since we are busy during the day teaching your child.  We are very grateful for this partnership!

Homework Assignments (10/12-10/16)-

Choose 1 or more activity each day.  Check the box when completed.  All 5 activities need to be completed by Friday.

  1. Complete the Beginning sounds Part 2 apple activity on Seesaw.

  1. Write the letters we have covered (C, O, A, D, G, M) on Index cards. Rearrange the cards to create CVC words and practice blending them.  (Ex:  G-O-D,  D-A-D, etc.)  Bonus: Record a video of yourself practicing and put it on Seesaw!  We love to see you practicing at home!

  1.  Read the book “Fall Fun” aloud to someone.

      4.  Complete the Math worksheet, “Spot the Pattern”.

      5. Practice saying your address and phone number.

  • Bible verse assessments are every Friday.  Sight word assessments are every other Friday.  We just finished our cumulative assessment on the “superman’ list...we will begin the “spiderman” list next week.  Please help your child practice their bible verse and sight words daily for mastery retention.

  • Kindergarteners love their stuffed animals!  Please remind your child to only bring 1 small, furry friend each day.  The stuffed animal needs to fit inside their backpack to prevent the spread of germs and/or being misplaced.  Thank you for your assistance with this matter! :)

  • Please remember a lightweight jacket/sweatshirt for our cooler, fall temperatures.  We will go outside every day unless there is inclement weather.

  • We sent home a letter about our upcoming unit on communities.  We need you to take a picture of your house, apartment, cabin, etc. and email it to your child’s teacher.  SHH...Please keep it a surprise from your child!

  • We also need your help with your address and phone number that you prefer your child to memorize.  Please send that info in their daily binders by Monday 10/12. Kindergarteners will be practicing these at school and for homework.  Thanks again for your help! :)
