Week of May 3 - 7

FIELD TRIP FUN

We had so much fun on our field trip to the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  The kids loved riding a school bus!  We hiked the forest trails, searched high and low for signs of life, and studied the plants and animals that call Georgia home!

We have lots of fun activities planned for the remainder of the school year BUT we need your help.  In order for us to have time for these activities, we need our kindergartners to continue making good school choices.  Please try to keep your child on their normal routine for school days.  They need to be eating a healthy breakfast, getting homework done daily, and going to bed early.  When our students come to school tired from late night outings and have eaten lots of high sugar foods, it sets the tone for the rest of the day.  We would appreciate your support in trying to finish off our year STRONG!

WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK IN…

Bible - Jesus Calms the Storm

Phonics - consonant blends, ABC countdown

Reading - fiction and non-fiction book about plants

Math - counting on or up from any number 0-100

Science - life cycle of plant

Teacher Appreciation, Field Day & Early Dismissal are all on Friday, May 7th.   We will be having a fun & athletic field day all morning. Please have your child wear their LS Kindergarten shirt with athletic shorts.  Please make sure to bring a water bottle and apply sunscreen before school begins!  Lower School dismissal will be at 11:15 am.

End of the Year Party

We will be having our end of the year class party during the day and then graduation in the evening!  The school will be providing pizza and Kona Ice for all LS students.

Kindergarten Graduation

Kindergarten graduation is Tuesday, May 25th at 7 pm.  Students should dress in their “Sunday best”.  Boys should wear a polo or buttoned dress shirt with long pants.  (Ties are optional.) Girls should wear a dress or blouse with a skirt.  Please do not put bows or fancy ribbons in your daughter’s hair since the graduation caps will not fit over it.  We also ask that students not wear jeans, shorts or tennis shoes.

Testing coming up after Spring Break!!!

On Monday, April 19th - 23rd, all K5 students will take the ITBS standardized test (Iowa Test of Basic Skills).  Testing will continue each morning.  We want your child’s testing experience to be positive and successful. Please remember the following tips:

*There will be no Homework Sheet during the week of testing.

Please note:  We will have a practice test on Friday, April 16th.  This will help students understand how the test is administered and give them opportunities to practice.  It is important that your child be in attendance that day in order to be prepared.

KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION PHOTOS

Bring your smile to school on Tuesday, April 13 because Karen Rainwater Photography will be offering professional Cap & Gown portraits. A link was sent home last week to order your Graduation packet!  All orders need to be placed by Monday, April 12th.

Preferred dress:

Boys - long pants, an oxford shirt and tie.  Any oxford shirt is fine.  It does not need to be an NCCS oxford.  If your son does not have an oxford shirt or tie, we have extra ones available to use for the picture.

Girls - NCCS jumper, skirt or skort.  While your daughter's hair looks very cute with ponytails, braids and large bows, we ask that you not use these for the pictures.  Large hair accessories make it very difficult to fit the cap properly on her head.
