Week of March 29 - April 1

Remember that teachers begin class instruction at 8:00 AM each day. Students may go to their classrooms beginning at 7:30 AM. We recommend arriving early enough for your child to unpack their backpacks and complete their morning work and activities.  Having time in their classroom before school begins allows them to be ready to start their day off prepared to be successful.

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING IN…

Bible - Jesus and the nobleman and Palm Sunday

Phonics - Identifying and distinguishing the letter X, the “ing” family and syllables

Reading - Setting, main characters, main idea

Math- Subtraction 0-10

Social Studies - Community Helpers

Math Flashcards are a great way to practice fluency with numbers!   There are lots of game ideas on Pinterest to keep their interest!  You can make flashcards using index cards or scrap paper.  The dollar store is a great place to find addition and subtraction cards!  Please focus on 0-10 with speed and mastery.  Kids love to add “big” numbers but oftentimes when they try to use large numbers they miss out on a complete understanding of place value and number sense!  Some students may master these quickly and you can certainly challenge them to work 0-15 and so on…

Thursday, April 1st- Egg Hunt

A flyer went home this week along with plastic eggs.  We are asking for help with our egg hunt.  Please fill the eggs with a treat (candy, stickers, etc, but please no chocolate).  We ask that you tape up the eggs so that the goodies do not fall out during the egg hunt!  Please send the eggs back no later than Weds. 3/31- Thank you for your support!

An email from Mrs. Titus was sent out this week giving more details

A student who is well rested, well fed, and has a positive attitude is best prepared for testing. You can help your student do his or her best by considering these tips:

  • Make sure your student is in school and on time on test days. Reschedule dentist appointments and other out-of-school time for non-testing days.

  • Make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.

  • Remind your student that these tests are only one part of the school day. Emphasize that you have confidence in his or her ability to do the best job possible!

  • Remind your student to listen carefully to the directions and to each question as it is read aloud during testing. Encourage your student to ask the teacher for help if he or she does not understand the directions.

Week of March 15 - 19!

Wednesday, March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day!  All Lower School students may wear green! Students who do not choose to participate should wear their regular school uniform.

Leprechaun Trap Family Project- Please help us catch these sneaky leprechauns with a handmade trap!   According to Irish fables, leprechauns like to make shoes, love the color green, and hide their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!  You can use recyclable materials from home like shoeboxes, paper towel rolls, construction paper, markers, paint, stickers, etc. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest if you need inspiration.  The most important thing is to have fun!  All traps are due on Tuesday, March 16th so we can set them up before St. Patrick’s Day.
